Organization of the first seminar on "Advanced Irrigated Agriculture" was urgently conditioned with the increasing necessity for dissemination of available practical and scientific-research knowledge, which have been accumulated in five of the Central Asian countries during their economic transformation to market relations in water and agricultural sectors, which in turn was complicated with the severe impact of drought period for the past few years and necessity to increase a wider implementation of advanced water saving technologies.
The overall objective of this seminar was the preparation of the trainers for future courses on this topic that is planned to organize ICWC Training Centre as well as in future regional branches of the centre. The main method used to reach the objective was the active and critical discussion of the presented papers with the participation of all the participants of the seminar.
Central Asian In the opening session of the seminar participated and addressed the participants on the issues relevant to the theme of the seminar, Honorary Counsel of Canada in Uzbekistan Mr. A. E. Antonov, Water Resources Management Training Project Manager from University of McGill Mr. Robert Baker, members of the ICWC - Deputy Minister, General Director of the Water Resources Management Department of the Kyrgyz Republic, Mr. Baratali Koshmatov, Minister of Water Resources of Tajikistan, Mr. Abdukokhir Nazirov, First Deputy Minister - Head of the Water Resources Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management, Mr. Abdurakhim Djalalov, Honorary Member of the ICWC Prof., Nariman Kipshakbaev and the SIC ICWC Director Prof., Victor Dukhovny.
