Project Description |

Regional dissemination missions |
|
|
In order to further the reach of this project, regional workshops will be conducted in the other 4 Central Asia Republics of Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan. This will allow the other 4 republics to have ownership of the project, and enhance the dialogue of professionals and policy makers from the five countries. The regional scope of the project will thus be emphasized, and mechanisms for enhanced regional cooperation will be promoted in the workshops. The importance of sharing of data and information among the countries will be stressed.
The overall impact will be to reduce tensions and conflicts over water allocation at the regional level. Peace and security in the region will therefore be enhanced. Furthermore, this activity will allow other aid donors eg. USAID, who are looking at developing regional training centers, to see how they can build on the McGill/ Mount Royal training initiatives, and make maximum use of the skilled human resources base being developed by the CIDA supported project. It will also strengthen CIDA's role as the lead aid donor in water in the region. Project staff and ICWC trainers from Tashkent will undertake a trip to each of the other four Central Asian countries once a year. Each mission will be one week in duration and up to four project personnel from Tashkent will be present. Specific activities are as follows:
- To present material developed in activity 6 to local water basin personnel in each of the other four Central Asian republics;
- To present country-specific material to interested stakeholders in each country;
- To keep the broader context of the whole of Central Asia in the project throughout its execution;
- To give local stakeholders the opportunity to meet and discuss water issues with senior personnel and Canadian experts.
- To deliver seminars on conflict resolution.
- To involve ecologists and power generation experts in the discussions.
The costs of the personnel participating in this activity are included in activity 6 (in the case of McGill, Mount Royal and ICWC instructional staff) and in activity 8 (in the case of project management and coordination staff).
