Study tour to Canada for senior policy makers |
|
|
The emphasis of this activity is to bring senior water policy makers from the five Central Asian republics to meet with their equivalents in Canada and the USA. This activity will work with senior officials, such as ministers, deputy ministers and their equivalents in the governments of the five recipient countries. In Canada, these officials will meet with Canadian counterparts. Canadian Government departments that will be approached include, but are not limited to:
- Environment Canada;
- Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada;
- Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade;
- Department of Fisheries and Oceans;
- International Joint Commission;
- Status of Women Canada;
- Canadian International Development Agency.
The objectives of these meetings will be to increase the Central Asian officials' knowledge of the need for water management reform, to discuss the successes of Canadian experiences in both domestic and international water management as well as promoting this project as a Canadian engine of reform in the five Central Asian republics. In addition, meetings may be held with Status of Women Canada to promote ideas of gender equality at the highest policy level. This activity will work at a broad policy level as opposed to a management or technical level.
