Project Description
Short-term technical courses

This activity will be targeted towards technical personnel, whose role is to work closely in water basins and at the farm level in water management. The courses in this activity will promote the development of skill and knowledge in the areas of ecosystem management, resource conservation, water laws (both domestic and international) and integrated water management. This activity will encourage participants from each country to share information and promote a more common approach to water management in the region. This activity envisions the delivery of ten courses. Some of the specific courses that will be targeted to this group include, but are not limited to:
  • Water resources management at the basin scale;
  • On-farm water management;
  • Water conservation and improving water use efficiency;
  • Information systems and data exchange;
  • Increasing crop productivity on irrigated lands;
  • Subsurface drainage and water table management;
  • Integrated irrigation and drainage systems;
  • Water quality improvement in irrigated agriculture;
  • Water rights and water trading;
  • Managing water users associations, and gender considerations in the operations of water users associations.
Each course is expected to be two weeks in duration and each course will require the work of Canadian trainer for 25 days (approximately one week for preparation, two weeks for delivery and one week for review/evaluation).
