The Djizak steppe with an area of more than 300,000 hectares lies to the south of the Hunger steppe. A plan of irrigating the Djizak steppe from the full-flowing Syr Darya were drawn up. Its waters were raised in four stages by means of a cascade of pumping stations with a productivity ranging from 30 to 100 cubic meters per second. As a result, 26 cotton-growing, three vegetable-growing, two fruit and grape growing state farms were set up and the supply of water to the nine existing collective farms there were improved.
