Along the left-bank margins of the oasis in the Khorezm region subsoil waters form a closed aquifer situated at the depth of 0.5-2 meters below the surface. For this reason much reclamation work was done there to build a ramified collector and drainage network with the huge inter-republican Daryalyk water-diverting canal.
